Australia’s Best Contemporary Gin – 2025 Recap

Thank you for being part of our journey. 2025 was a momentous year for Bright Night Gin – one filled with trophies, tastings, new releases, community celebrations and the biggest bragging right. From winning national titles to launching our biggest Cocktail Book ever, we’ve been busy pouring love (and gin) into every moment. Here’s a look back at the highlights.

Awards & Recognition

Sydney Royal Awards: Champion Contemporary Gin

We entered the Sydney Royal Spirit Awards for the first time – and took home four medals, including the coveted Champion Trophy for Contemporary Gin. Our Wild Tasmanian Gin triumphed in a field of 40 gins, earning the top prize and a Gold Medal. Judges praised the gin’s 14 botanicals, including wild Tasmanian Kunzea, calling it “a stunning, stunning gin.” Our Chardonnay Barrel Aged Gin earned Silver and our Bright Night Pink Gin took Bronze – a clean sweep that showcased the quality across our entire range.

Australia’s Best Gin

We’ve always believed our Wild Tasmanian Gin was something special – and now, the judges agree.

At the Sydney Royal Fine Food Awards, widely regarded as one of the most rigorous and prestigious spirit competitions in the country, our Wild Tasmanian Gin took home the Champion Trophy. What makes this achievement particularly remarkable is the category it was awarded in: Contemporary Gin, the single largest and most hotly contested class in the competition, featuring a field of 40 exceptional gins from distilleries right across Australia.

The Contemporary Gin category is where Australia’s craft distillers bring their most inventive and ambitious expressions – gins that push beyond the traditional juniper-forward profile to showcase native botanicals, unconventional flavour combinations, and distinctive regional character. To come out on top in a lineup this deep and this talented is something we don’t take lightly.

So yes, with a Champion Trophy from the Sydney Royal Awards, earned against the strongest field in the competition, we think it’s fair to say it: we make Australia’s Best Gin. And we’re just getting started.

Australian Gin Awards: Best VIC Contemporary & Matured Gins

At the Australian Gin Awards, we were honoured to receive two state trophies: Best VIC Contemporary Gin for Wild Tasmanian Gin and Best VIC Matured Gin for our Chardonnay Barrel Aged expression. We also added Gold and Silver medals to the Wild Tasmanian Gin’s trophy cabinet, Silver for our Barrel Aged Gin and Bronze for the Pink Gin. These accolades reaffirmed our belief that small-batch craft, authentic Tasmanian botanicals and patience produce gins worthy of national recognition.

International Accolades: New Zealand Gold

July brought international cheers when our Wild Tasmanian Gin won Gold at the Super Spirits Awards in New Zealand. It also collected a Bronze in the Classic Gin category, marking the first time Bright Night Gin has taken top honours across the Tasman and solidifying our reputation among the southern hemisphere’s best.

Events & Experiences

Ginuary Hobart 2025

We kicked off the year with a record-breaking Ginuary festival in Hobart, where record crowds sampled our range and our Barrel Aged Gin and branded T-shirts sold out. We introduced the second generation of our Chardonnay Barrel Aged Gin, aged nine months in French oak for buttery vanilla and caramel notes, and revelled in the festival’s electric atmosphere of cocktails, food and celebration.

Distillery Tours & Masterclasses

January also saw our sold-out Distillery Experience & Cocktail Masterclass in New Town. Guests enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour, tasting all three gin expressions, and learned how to craft classic cocktails; spaces were limited to 12 people and priced at $80.

Gin & Whisky Tasting Experience – Melbourne

In June we teamed up with Hunter Island Whisky for a unique Gin & Whisky Tasting in Melbourne. Attendees sampled three Bright Night gins (including the second batch of the “Red Goat” Chardonnay Barrel Aged Gin) and three whiskies. Entry was free, and purchases included a complementary cocktail book.

Good Food & Wine Shows – Brisbane & Sydney

We returned to the Good Food & Wine Show Brisbane in October, sharing tastings of our entire range and connecting with our growing Queensland fan base. Earlier in June we made our Sydney show debut, pouring our Wild Tasmanian (multi-award-winning), Pink, and Barrel Aged Gins and offering cocktail ideas and food pairing tips.

Australian Distillers Festival – Melbourne

April brought the Australian Distillers Festival at Abbotsford Convent, where we were among 30-plus craft distillers. We offered limited edition 200 ml bottles featuring our Gin Connoisseurs label and poured tastings of our Wild, Pink, and Barrel Aged Gins.

Twilight Markets & Community Events

We delighted locals at two Hobart Twilight Market appearances. October saw our first-ever stall at Long Beach Sandy Bay, with limited-edition 200 ml bottles, tastings of our champion Wild Tasmanian Gin, and the chance to meet our stalwart team member Xavier. Later that month we set up at Brooke Street Pier, serving the full range among food, art and live music. We also joined the Narryna Annual Christmas Spirit Market, celebrating at the historic Georgian house with tastings, festive Ho Ho Hobart music and Gin Gift packs.

Product Innovations

Cocktails Delight: The Ultimate Cocktail Book

Our third and largest Cocktail Book, “Cocktails Delight”, launched mid-year. Spanning 100 pages of beautiful photography, personal stories and twice as many recipes as its predecessor, the book is a celebration of flavour and creativity. We offer it free with any 700 ml bottle or gift pack purchase, ensuring everyone can craft cocktails at home.

Bright Night Cocktail kit

We also introduced an elevated Cocktail set: a 750 ml gunmetal-black shaker, dual-sided jigger, muddler and bar spoon, accompanied by a special Cocktails & Dreams book, a 50 ml sample of any award-winning gin and a cotton carry bag. Designed for home bartenders and professionals alike, it brings our mixology expertise right to your kitchen.

Corporate & Community Experiences

Our in-office gin tasting program continued to flourish, bringing Bright Night Gin to boardrooms and offices across Australia. Corporate clients raved about guided tastings, gin history and cocktail education. We expanded the program with non-alcoholic options and revamped the take-home packs with a 100 ml bottle, Cocktail Delight book, dehydrated citrus pack and $20 voucher. These tastings have become a favourite way for teams to connect and celebrate.

Looking Ahead

2025 was a year of triumphs and celebrations. We’re immensely grateful to everyone who lifted a glass with us, whether at festivals, markets, corporate events or at home. In 2026, we’ll continue pushing boundaries, exploring new botanicals and creating experiences that bring people together. Stay tuned for exciting launches, events and perhaps even a gin inspired by our co-founder’s Nepalese heritage.

From all of us at Bright Night Gin, thank you for making 2025 unforgettable. We can’t wait to share what’s next.
